In the industrial relations sector, the Fair Work Commission recently announced a review of seven commonly used modern awards. The awards under scrutiny include those in the retail, fast food, restaurant, hospitality, clerical, social services, and children’s services sectors. The National Retail Association will engage its members for input and advocacy during this review process. The Minister has urged the Commission to give top priority to four key areas, which you can find detailed information about in the review provided here.

In another significant development in industrial relations, there are significant changes to employment laws coming in early 2024. The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Bill 2023 (the Bill) will impact casual employment, gig work, labour hire and more. Last week, the National Retail Association’s Deputy CEO and Director of NRA Legal, Lindsay Carroll, met with Labor Government representatives, Federal Coalition representatives and crossbenchers regarding the Bill. NRA Legal will host a series of critical workplace relations webinars, designed to shed light on the intricacies of this significant legislative update. These events will take place on various dates throughout September and October. You can register for the webinars here and also access the factsheet available for members in the member portal here.

With sincere appreciation, thank you to everyone who nominated our fantastic retail community in the 2023 National Retail Awards. We were overwhelmed with the nominations this year and finalists are expected to be announced as soon as judging is finalised. We are incredibly proud of the Australian business community, and the nominations demonstrated the high calibre of people in our community.
