Last week the federal government announced a $62 million grant package to give retailers some relief from the rising cost of energy.

I encourage members to apply for a grant between $10,000 to $25,000 to go towards energy-saving measures for your business, such as high-efficiency air conditioners or the installation of tools that monitor energy use.

Newly appointed ESG Policy Consultant Dr. Geoffrey Annison is well placed to assist members with this initiative, with his depth of knowledge of environmental best practices to get you on the right track.

Members who employ student visa holders must be aware of the upcoming changes to the limit of work hours for these employees. From July 1, student visa holders will be limited to 48 hours of work per fortnight.

This will not be without its challenges, as labour shortages are still impacting business operations and the recruitment challenge has not eased for many business owners. Should your business be affected by this change, please let us know. This will help us hold the government accountable for any negative blows.

Our employment law division is always available to support members who need assistance interpreting and implementing their responsibilities under workplace law.

To help members address this specific challenge, we will be hosting a free webinar on immigration and employment visas on Thursday, March 9. Click here to register.

Have a great week.
