The National Retail Awards have been the biggest event on our calendar for many, many years and I am excited to announce the Awards are back again for 2023, bigger and better than ever before.

The Awards are the ultimate celebration of retail excellence and a time when we acknowledge and celebrate outstanding individuals and businesses who lead and grow this wonderful industry. Nominations for a huge range of categories are now open and I absolutely encourage all retailers to enter. Read more about the National Retail Awards and nominate yourself or your business here. This is your time to show us what you’ve got!

Today we welcomed the announcement that the New South Wales Government will introduce legislation to curb customer aggression and abuse against retail workers. In South Australia, similar legislation has already been introduced, and we’ve called on the State and Territory Governments to enact legislation and protect retail workers. You can read the media release here. If you would like any support on this important issue facing retailers, you are welcome to call our Policy team on 1800 738 245.

The National Retail Association is here to assist members to tackle these less-than-desirable but nonetheless real issues, and we currently offering an accredited short course to skill your staff in effectively and safely Dealing with Aggressive and Abusive Customers. You can find more information here.

In addition, NRA Legal will be soon hosting an online webinar on Identifying and Understanding Psychosocial Risks, and this is critical for anyone in the retail sector. This session is taking place on 5 July and is free for members. Please register here.

Sustainability for consumers and businesses is a growing priority for the industry. Last week, we held a dedicated session with the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation on the impending packaging and design standards that will be introduced and to address how businesses can save money and avoid greenwashing. We’ll be hosting another session next month, and we are hosting regular sessions on the State and Territory single-use plastic bans. You can register for a free session using this link or by contacting sustainability@nationalretail.org.au

Have a wonderful week ahead.
